GUM

GUM is a neat site analytics package (currently in Beta) that is very different from the other statistics packages out there right now, such as Google Analytics, Clicky, or Mint. Instead of basing the tracking system around page views, GUM instead tracks what they call useful visitors. To quote their website/email,

[Useful visitors] are buying your products, adding comments, visiting every day, browsing around the site and reading your content. Enjoying themselves. They love your site. They love your content and your products.

Instead of conventional information such as page views or page hits, GUM shows you how many of these useful visitors you have visiting your site, and what they are doing (what they call behavioral statistics). Through that data you can then infer what they like and what they don’t. GUM even suggests how to shape and improve your website and your content to please these visitors.

You can find out more (or apply for their beta program!) at their website. Check it out!

Hello! We all look forward to hearing from you!

required, but never displayed or shared! (optional, of course) http://
  • Sounds good.. I’ve applied for the beta. I’ve never found a stats service to be completely ‘useful’… maybe this is it …

  • i’ve been using mint since january and find it really usefull, but i have to really pay atention and put stuff together.

i am looking for something really simple and easy to view that just shows progress.

i’ve signed up for gum already, but haven’t gotten an invite.

do have any screenshots you can share?

    thanks!

  • jonathan,

Unfortunately I’m not in the beta right now, either. :( It looks like they’re not ready for testers yet, but as soon as I do get in, I’ll be sure to update this post (or make another one) w/ some pictures & thoughts, if possible.

Of course if anyone reading this is in the beta right now, it wouldn’t hurt to share some screenshots with everyone. ;)

  • GUM seems like a good idea. I’ve applied, and can’t wait to try it out!

  • Mint is great, but you can never really tell how much of your traffic is useful. GUM could prove good, but it sounds a bit like that eggy stats site, can’t quite remember the name!

Edit by River: He was thinking of Crazy Egg, which also is a very cool stats site, except this one is open for registration. :)

  • Interesting, does the data get stored locally or on their server? Is it a self installation thing, or a service?

  • AR: To be honest, I’m not sure. :P I’m assuming that they’re hosting it, though.

  • I’m interested in this, but with the number of packages out there can’t see how it could be different. This could be the product that makes YF a millionaire with subscriptions.
